In 1973 the President of Pakistan Mr. Zulifqar Ali Bhutto with the collaboration of UNESCO organized the International Symposium at Mohen Jo Daro. He called many Archeologists and research scholars from all over the world to put light on the hidden phases of the site. The scholars of world fame from 15 countries came and presented their research work on the occasion symposium. In his welcome speech on 3rd, February 1973. Mr. Z. A Bhutto said, “In retrospect, Mohen-Jo-Daro is one of the earliest spots which witnessed the germination of the seeds of human civilization and urba prospect, it offers a creative channel for international co-operation. We in Pakistan shall look upon this International Symposium on Mohen-Jo-Daro as the beginning of a new era of understanding and assist nations of the world in a cause dedicated to the preservation of a cultural heritage which is of equal value the all of them. The remains of Mohen-JoDaro signify the importance of human talent in collective well-being and its triumph over the destructive phenomena of time and nature. The international endeavor to save the site from the dangers of water logging and salinity will no doubt become by itself a monument to the spirit of good will and co-operation displayed by the man of today in the cause of protection the richness of human history and civilization.”
Feeling dire need of the proceedings to get published the first edition of this document were issued by National Book Foundation in 1975. We have decided to celebrate this year (2022) as “The Year of Mohen-Jo-Daro" to applaud its hundred years of excavation. In this regard the series of the publication is decided to get published. This symposium is also the part of that series. We feel great pleasure and honor to publish this historic document.
