Dr Farakh Ahmed Khan (FRCS) is professionally known as one of the finest urologist-surgeons in Pakistan. His colleagues acknowledge his pioneering administrative contribution to urology departments of Mayo Hospital and Post-Graduate Medical Institute, Lahore. He was appointed Professor of Urology from 1981 in the latter institution. In a way, the title Murree: A British Town in the Hills presents to the reader the history of the British Raj, the evolution of British nationalism and the ideas that were tried out in India by its various viceroys and administrators. The book is profusely illustrated and will attract readers in Pakistan and the region of South Asia. Just like his book Waiting for Orders (2000) examined medicine in Pakistan in the light of social anthropology of the profession, his book on Murree abounds with rare insights into the behavior of the men entwined with the history of this most beautiful of hill stations in the subcontinent.
