Prof. Khurshid Ahmed has served as a member of the Senate of Pakistan for at least 21 years. Since economics is his specialty, worsening economic conditions of the country, plaguing bottlenecks in the system and suggestions for improvement have been the constant topic of his speeches and talks in the Senate. The book under review contains some of such selected speeches of Professor sahib. While selecting the speeches, the aspect that has come to the fore is whether the speech is short or relatively long, what is said in it holds significance in today’s discussions. Therefore, if the title of the book is kept in view, then in the light of this title, the issues and causes as well as the plan of action have been pointed out in each chapter of the book.
The first part of the book deals with the major topics which are of key importance in overall economic strategy, economic planning and policy formulation. In comparison, the second part consists of comments and suggestions on the eve of the annual budget presented in different years. These include separately the proposals put forward by Prof. Khurshid Ahmed as a representative of the Senate or its committee as a whole. The third part of the book is based on the discussion of some miscellaneous but important topics under separate headings.
