Author Information:

Alex Vatanka was born in Tehran, Iran, in 1975. He was raised in Denmark and later moved on to England to pursue university studies in political science and international relations. His first job was as a country risk analyst at a small firm in Cambridge before joining Jane's in London in 2001. In 2006, he moved to join the Jane's office in Washington D.C. where he is today a Senior Fellow at the Middle East Institute and at the Jamestown Foundation. Beyond Jane's, the Middle East Institute and the Jamestown Foundation, he has written for such outlets as Christian Science Monitor, Foreign Affairs, Americas Quarterly, CNN.com, Al Monitor, The National Interest, Daily Beast, the Jerusalem Post, Journal of Democracy and the Council of Foreign Relations. He is presently working on his second book "The Making of Iranian Foreign Policy: Contested Ideology, Personal Rivalries and the Domestic Struggle to Define Iran's Place in the World."
