The writing is fluid and the drama is amped just right without becoming too soul-crushing, which makes it ideal considering how most local TV keeps overloading on drama for no reason. This is a story that local media won't dare show and should be read by everyone in any relationship with an open mind. |

Picked up this book not knowing much about the author's work or the story. It was a really interesting read and a refreshing take on the intersection of modernity, female empowerment and spirituality. Aaira's relationship with Maria was a wonderful display of solidarity between women. It was lovely to see Aaira finding a role model and confidant outside her family. While her friendship with Ahad was extremely refreshing, the mutual respect and platonic partnership without any clichéd awkwardness and melodrama was a welcome addition. The best feature for me was her therapy sessions where she got to actually process her trauma and grow as a person. The love story, for me, was almost a secondary plotline within the story. Aaira's journey and growth, facilitated by her the people who love her and care for her, was the real star of the book. While the book isn't perfect, it's full of charm and a great quick read! |
