Faraway Music is based on the life of Piya, who grows up in Kolkata, pampered by her mother and grandparents. However, she is deeply perturbed by the reason behind why her father isn’t with them. Piya spends a great deal of her time studying, and goes through the normal phases in the life of an adolescent by having crushes on many people. Kundu, the author, has incorporated her personal experiences in this novel, during the time she was a journalist and then a PR head.
Things take a turn for the worse, when a dreadful encounter with a young man whom she was infatuated with, leaves her devastated. After relocating to Mumbai, she begins working as an intern in journalism. However, Piya makes her way through the rough phase, eventually making a name for herself in journalism. She then became a journalist for one of the leading newspapers in India, during which time she falls in love with Abir, the editor of the newspaper. She also finds Tarun, aka TT, highly attractive. After a series of events revolving around a foiled drug abuse story among Bollywood celebs, Piya had to make a choice between Abir and her career.
With time, Piya moves on and marries an affluent artist, named David Cicconi in New York, who helps her to liberate herself, and become a highly successful author. However, the skeletons in her cupboard begin to surface, bringing a twist to the plot. Faraway Music is a thrilling novel, based on family, love, fame, and family.
