Mohammad Salama is Professor of Arabic and Qur'anic Studies & Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at George Mason University. He holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Salama was born and raised in the old city of Alexandria, Egypt, where he spent his childhood and adolescent years. Before settling in North America, Salama studied Classical and Modern Arabic as well as English literature and translation, and holds a graduate degree from ‘Ayn Shams University in Cairo. He is the recipient of two Fulbright Scholar Awards. His academic interests include modern and classical Arabic literature, Qur'anic Studies, Comparative Cultural Studies in the colonial and post-colonial Arab world. He has published in scholarly venues that include der Islam, SCTIW Review, JAL, ASJ, ALIF, and AHR.
