Charlotte Bell began practicing yoga in 1982 and began teaching in 1986. Certified by B.K.S. Iyengar, she cites Donna Farhi and Judith Hanson Lasater as her most influential asana teachers. She has also practiced Insight Meditation since 1986 and has attended many silent retreats—including several 30-day retreats—at The Last Resort in Cedar Breaks, UT, and at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, CA. She founded Mindful Yoga Collective in Salt Lake City in 2013.
In addition to a committed practice of yoga and meditation, Charlotte also writes pretty much every single day. Her writing has appeared in Yoga Journal, Yoga International, YogaUOnline, CATALYST Magazine and the Hugger Mugger Yoga blog. She has written three books so far: Mindful Yoga, Mindful Life (Rodmell Press, 2007), Yoga for Meditators (Rodmell Press, 2011) and Hip-Healthy Asana (Shambhala Publications, 2018). She loves words and admits to being a grammar geek.
A lifelong musician, Charlotte plays oboe and English horn in the Salt Lake Symphony and in the folk sextet Red Rock Rondo.
She lives in Salt Lake City with her partner, composer Phillip Bimstein, and her three cats.
