I am a social historian living in Northampton, in Western Massachusetts, home of Smith College, and generally a very agreeable town filled with many authors and other fascinating people.
My subjects are social history and culture, especially commercial history. I love to research the history of tea rooms, department stores, restaurants, etc. My blog Restaurant-ing through history is about the history of American restaurants back to about 1790.
In researching the history of the world's department stores I consulted so many sources that I now have a mountain of notes, barely squirreled away in file cabinets installed in my basement. Such is the life of a researcher! I don't dare throw them away.
