Anjum Altaf has a PhD in Engineering – Economic Systems and a Masters of Arts in Economics, both from Stanford University. He has been associated with the Applied Economics Research Centre at the University of Karachi, the Department of City and Regional Planning and the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and with the East Asia and Pacific Region of the World Bank in Washington, DC. He also served as the Dean of the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law at the Lahore University of Management Sciences. He is currently the Provost at the newly-established Habib University in Karachi.
