Kecia Ali is Professor of Religion at Boston University. She mostly writes about Islam and gender. "The Woman Question in Islamic Studies," on academic sexism, was published in September 2024. In addition to two open-access edited volumes on American Muslim marriage and divorce available at OpenBU, her other books include "Marriage and Slavery in Early Islam," "Imam Shafi'i: Scholar and Saint," and "The Lives of Muhammad," as well as the groundbreaking "Sexual Ethics and Islam," available in an expanded second edition. Outside of religious studies, her book "Human in Death" explores J.D. Robb's futuristic police procedurals, analyzing the series' largely compelling model of human flourishing as well as its critical silences and omissions. She is currently at work on "Women in Muslim Traditions," geared toward students and general readers.
