Professor Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Chawla has held significant roles within the University of the Punjab, Lahore, serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, and as a Professor & Chairman of the Department of History, Director of Pakistan Study Centre, Director of Research Society of Pakistan. Professor Chawla's career exemplifies excellence in education, academia, research, history and academic administration. Commencing as a lecturer in 1989, he steadily ascended to the position of full professor. Notably, he has fostered collaborations with esteemed foreign universities in Asia and Europe, leading to the establishment of joint academic programs. His effort to incorporate Chinese students into collaborative PhD and MPhil programs within the history department greatly enhanced international cooperation and academic interchange across Pakistan, ultimately contributing to the enhancement of the university's rankings both domestically and internationally. His expertise primarily focuses on the history and politics of Modern South Asia. With numerous articles published in both national and international journals, alongside six authored books, he has garnered recognition through prestigious awards. Notably, his book "Wavell and the Dying Days of the Raj, " published by Oxford University Press, received the Best Book Publication Award for 2010-2011 from HEC, Pakistan in 2013. He has been editor of several research journals including the Journal of Research Society of Pakistan HEC recognized X category. He has presented papers at various international conferences, organized several international conferences, seminars and lectures covering diverse themes within Arts & Humanities, and Social Sciences. Recognizing his contributions to the historical field in Pakistan, Professor Chawla has received several awards, including the HEC Post-Doctoral Fellowship Award for 2010-2011, Overseas Ph.D. Scholarship (Split program) for 2004-2005, and the Punjab University's Best Teacher?s Award for 2005-2007. Even post-retirement from Punjab University, Professor Chawla remains deeply engaged in academic pursuits. He holds the position of Adjunct Professor at several national and Chinese universities, where he occasionally delivers specialized lectures. He continues to contribute to national and international electronic, print and social media platforms, offering insights on contemporary issues and historical narratives. His commitment to academia endures through participation in national and international conferences selection boards, supervising PhD candidates and delivering lectures on various aspects of colonial and postcolonial history of Pakistan. His ongoing research, particularly on Lord Mountbatten?s viceroyalty, showcases his dedication to scholarly endeavors
