HarperCollins UK acquired Egmont UK Ltd on 1 May 2020 from the Danish media group, Egmont. Prior to that, Egmont acquired Reed Children’s Books in 1998, which comprised a number of successful imprints and household names. These included, Methuen, the original home of Winnie-the-Pooh and the English language editions of Tintin; Heinemann, the original home of Thomas-the-Tank Engine, Mammoth and Dean, which happens to be one of the oldest children’s imprints still in existence (Dean & Sons was founded around 1800 and was a pioneer in pop-up books). Egmont merged the Reed Children’s Books portfolio with World International, the original home of the Mr. Men series, to form one of the leading children’s specialist publishers in the UK. Children at different ages tend to be at different stages of ability, need and nurturing when it comes to reading, and at Egmont we use our expertise and detailed research to help not only create books for each age, but to help parents, carers, educators and gift-givers choose the right books for children.
